According to the Australian Government's Job Outlook service, demand for qualified mechanics grew strongly over the past five years with around 23,000 job openings expected over the next five years. As well as developing the skills to manage a small automotive business, in this course you will discover how to service and repair the mechanical parts of motor vehicles including the engine, transmission (clutch, gear box and differential), and suspension systems (steering, brakes, wheels and tyres). Successful completion of this course will qualify you to work as an automotive mechanic or light vehicle technician, or in management roles in an automotive retail, service and repair environments. Units The successful achievement of this dual qualification requires you to complete:- AUR30616 - Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology all core and 16 elective units from the list below. AUR40116 - Certificate IV in Automotive Management all core and 2 elective units from the list below. You will also be required to undertake 400 hours of vocational placement in an approved setting. University pathways If you want to go on to further study at university, TAFE Queensland has a pathway option to get you there. In many cases, completing one of our diplomas may give you a full year of credit towards a degree with one of our partner universities. Assessment Methods Skill and knowledge assessments are an essential step in progressing through your course. You may be assessed in a number of ways while you are studying at TAFE Queensland, including observation, written assessment, questioning, portfolios, work samples, third-party feedback, and through recognition of prior learning.
