Overview
This course provides you with all the knowledge and practical experience you will need to become a qualified Occupational Therapist and able to register with the HCPC. The programme offers a variety of practice placement opportunities which include extended part-time placements, role-emerging setting and an elective placement that can be take at home or overseas.
The programme incorporates the excellent grounding in biological and social sciences that our undergraduate programme is renowned for. Students will have the opportunity to undertake research to develop the evidence base of the profession as well as opportunities to learn alongside master’s students on our other Allied Healthcare programmes.
Our graduates have an excellent employment rate and because of the strong relationships we have with our local practice partners, they are highly regarded by local employers.
Placements
In year 1 you will undertake a part-time 12 week placement and an 8 week full-time placement. This will be a typical occupational therapy practice placement setting such as an acute or rehabilitation hospital ward or within the local community.
In year 2 you will undertaken a 6 week full-time placement in a role-emerging setting and an 8 week elective placement. The elective placement is an opportunity to experience a placement overseas, further afield within the UK or within local specialist healthcare settings.

The taught postgraduate programmes in the School of Health Sciences provide an opportunity for healthcare professionals to develop, specialise and extend the scope of their skills into new areas, to meet the constantly evolving service demands for advanced practitioners and senior health professionals.
Graduates in Occupational Therapy are a vital part of modern health care and employment opportunities are available in the UK and abroad. This is a vocational programme and a skill shortage area within the National Health Service.

You will normally need a 2:1 honours degree, or above, or equivalent. This degree should be in a relevant subject across a range of disciplines, for example biological sciences, social sciences or health sciences. Applicants with a 2:2 honours degree will be considered with supporting information outlining relevant recent experience or further study. Non-health related degrees and professional qualifications may also be accepted. Each application will be assessed on its own merits. Five GCSEs at grades A*-C or 5-9, or equivalent, are required, including English language, mathematics and a science. Dual science awards are accepted. IELTS: Overall IELTS 7.0, no less than 6.5 in component scores.
